Generation Gap

Gone are the days when Computers are considered as Office-Equipment only.Having some knowlodge about Computer and having one at our own disposal is not longer a status symbol to atttract awe and attention.Lets admit it..Computers are one among many of the necessary items . Even a dingy one-room office with 3 staff will have a computer to keep track of the little activity they have.
One more such gadget is the “Moblie Phone”.Its no longer a luxury to be having a mobile.It is diffucut to ign0re “oh-you-dont-have-a-mobile-number” look.Though the handsets vary in price from that affordable by the CEO’s and those in possession by rickshaw-wallas, milkman ,or for that matter even your local roaming-in-cycle vegetable-vendor.

I am not going to continue on how useful / useless these gadgets are.I am more intrested in sharing my opinion on what various generations think ig these gadgets.(Here I am sticking to only Computers and mobile phones)

GENERATION – T (T – Terribly Traditional)
They belong to 50-75 yrs of age For this generation all the gadgets are the same.Their generalised opinion is …. its some electronic thing that belongs to my son/grandson … i dont venture to handle these things..what if i break it or
render it un-usable by pressing some wrong combination of those buttons…moreover.. i am not intrested in all these trendy-flashy-fancy things. They just seem to as sheer waste of hard earned money. one slip by us and it costs a mountain to
get it repaired…blah..blah..blah…. (over the days when these things were not freely available as of now)….

GENERATION – CC (“Cautions & Caught” between Traditional and genX)
They belong to 30-5o yrs of age
This is the “CAUTIOUS” generation.I pity them so much as they are CAUGHT between Techno-phobic-parents and Techno-centric(perhaps even techno-manic) -children .
Their opinion would be….hmm.. so how much does this gadget cost ?..(cost is prime concern..functionalities are just secondary)
Now the difficult part of convincing the Gen-T (ie parents) explaining why the gadget is worth the cost and conving the Gen- x (ie children) requesting them to take time and teach them how to use the gadget effectively and also request help on any Trouble-shoot conditions.

GENERATION – X (Techno-centric cult)
They belong to 0-30 yrs of age ( I belive, a new born’s first toy is his/hers parents mobile)
This is the “Bindaas” generation.Cost in immaterial…features and functions are not-compromised for they have their fundas innplace.Any troubleshoot with the gadget “Alt+Ctrl+Del” will solve all problems.

"தமிழன்" என்று ஒரு சொல்

பொதுவாக “தமிழ்” என்று சொன்னால் நமக்கு “மொழி” என்று தான் தோன்றும்..தவறில்லை.
நானும் அப்படித் தான் நினைத்தேன். அண்மயில் தான் அறிந்தேன்-உணர்ந்தேன்..”தமிழ்” மொழி மட்டுமல்லாது “உணற்வு”ம் கூட. இதை எனக்கு உணற்த்திய திரு.இராம்தாஸ் க்கு நன்றி. தோழரே..தங்களது எண்ண-பதிவு என்னை சற்று ஸ்தம்பித்து பிறகு சிந்திக்கவும். வைத்தது.

பல ஆயிரங்காலங்காலங்களாக நாமனைவரும் பேசி எழுதி படித்து உணர்ண்து களிக்கும் தமிழெனும் அமுதை தனதென்று அபகரித்து நம்போன்ற இனபலரை ஆரியரென்றும் பார்ப்பனரென்றும் இகழ்ன்து .. .. ..



வருந்தாதீர் தொழரே..நம்மைப் போல் அந்தணர்கள் பலபேர் உள்ளார்கள். தமிழ்-பெற்றோறுக்கு பிறந்து, தமிழை தாய்மொழியாககொண்டு ஆனால் உலகத்தாரால் மட்டுமல்லாது நம்-இனத்தார் (சக-தமிழர்கள்) மற்றும் நம்-நாட்டாராலும் “தமிழன்” என்று அங்கீகரிக்கப்படாதவர்கள் நாம் (இது எனது கருத்து மட்டுமே).காரணத்தோடு தான் சொல்கிறேன் பொறுமையுடன் படியுங்கள்.

நாம் பொழப்பை தேடி அசலூர் (தமிழ்நாட்டை விட்டு வெளியே) சென்றால் , நம்மை மதராஸி என்று தான் சொல்வார்கள். இது தென்-இந்திய மாவட்டங்களை சேர்ந்த அனைவர்க்கும் பொருந்தும்.இது அவர்களது அறியாமையா அல்லது அறிய விருப்பமில்லயின்மையா என்று ஆராய்ச்சி செய்யும் மனம் இப்பொது இல்லை. வெளிநாட்டில் இப்படி இருக்க தமிழ்நாட்டில் அந்தணர்கள் / பிராமணர்களை “பார்ப்பரன் -பாப்பாத்தி” என்று (ஏளனமாக) பொதுவாக “”பலர்”” சொல்வார்கள். இம்மாதிரி கசப்பான அனுபவங்கள் எனக்கும் பல உண்டு தொழரே..தனிமயில் வருந்தாதீர் அது உடல்நலத்திற்க்கும் மனநலத்திற்க்கும் நல்லதல்ல.

இத்தகைய அனுபவங்களும் , நான் படித்து அறிந்த விஶயங்களும் எனக்கு ஒரே ஒரு எண்ணத்தை தான் வலியுறித்தின. தன்னை-தான் தமிழன் என்று பரைசாற்றுவோருக்கு மறதி கொஞம் இருக்கு. நாமும் அவற்களை போல் தமிழை தாய் மொழியாக கொண்டவர்கள் என்பதை மறந்து விதுகிரார்கள்..அய்யோ பாவம். “”””திரைக்கடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு “””” என்று தமிழிலே சொல்லியிருப்பதை அறிந்தும்-உணர்ந்தும் வெளி நாட்டில் வியற்வை சிந்தி சம்பாதித பணத்தை கொண்டு தமிழ்நாட்டில் வீடு-மனை வைத்து இன்றும் பலர் வாழ்கிரார்கள் என்பதை மறந்து விடுகிறார்கள். வற்ணாச்ரம – தர்மங்களுடன் உடன்பாடு இல்லை என்று பகிரங்கமாக அறிவித்து…பள்ளி – பல்களைக்க்ழகம் – அலுவலகங்களில் முற்ப்படுத்தபட்ட இனத்தின் காரணமாக அல்ல திறமயின் காரணமாக தான் உயற்ந்து நிற்கிரோம் என்பதை மறந்து விடுகிரார்கள்.

அங்கீகாரம் என்பது எலோருக்கும் ஊக்கத்தை கொடுக்கும். சற்றே நிதானித்து யொசியுங்கள்.. அலுவலகத்தில் நீங்கள் செய்யும் பணிக்கு அங்கீகாரம் இல்லை என்றால் அங்கே மன-அமைதியுடன் பணிகளை தொடர முடியுமா? கல்லூரிக்கு பொய் வரும் பிள்ளைகளின் ஆர்வத்தயும் உழைப்பயும் நிராகரித்தால் (அங்கீகரிக்க மறந்தால்-மறுத்தால்)அவற்கள் மனம் எவ்வளவு சஞ்லப்படும்.சிருவயதில் நீங்கள் தீட்டிய ஒரு அழகான ஓவியத்தை வெறும் ஒரு பாற்வை மட்டுமே பார்த்து.. உங்களை விட மிக சிறியவர்களான தம்பி-தங்கை யின் கிறுக்கல்களை மிகையாக புகழ்ந்த போது கண்டிப்பக இன்றும் நினைவிற்க்கு வரும்.

அந்த நிலமையில் ஒரு பிள்ளைக்கு இருக்கும் ஆதங்கம் தான் இன்று எனக்கும் (திரு.இராம்தாஸ் மற்றும் எங்களை போல் பல்ர்) உள்ளது. பிற தமிழர்களை போல் எங்களது பூர்வீகம் தமிழ்நாடு தான் – எங்களது தாய்மொழியும் தமிழ் தான். தமிழ் இலக்கணம்-இலக்கியத்தில் முறையான பயிர்ச்சி இல்லையென்றாலும் தமிழில் பேச-படிக்க-எழுத தெரிந்தவர்கள்
தான்.

ஆக தமிழர்களின் மத்தியிலே “தமிழன்” என்ற அங்கீகாரம் கிடைக்காததின் வெளிப்பாடு தான் இந்த(குமுறல்) பதிவு. யாரையும் குறை சொல்லியோ இழிவாக சொல்வதோ இதன் நோக்கம் அல்ல. இதனால் உங்கள் மனது எந்த விதத்திலாவது புண்பட்டிருந்தால் தயவுகூற்ந்து மன்னியுங்கள்.

தமிழுக்கே “செம்மொழி” என்ற அங்கீகாரம் உலகத்தாற்முன் இருக்க… நாங்கள் கோருவதில் முறைகேடு உண்டோ. . . . . . . . . .

எழுத்துப்பிழைய்யை மன்னித்து கருத்தில் பிழை இருந்தால் சங்கோசப்படாம சொல்லுங்க,
எதுவானாலும் பேசி தீத்துக்குவோம்.

தீபாவளி வாழ்த்துக்கள்

கங்கா-ஸ்நானம் செய்து , பலகாரம் சாப்பிட்டு , பட்டஸும் வெடிது முடித்தாகிவிட்டது. களைப்பாகத் தான் இருக்கும். அக்கடா என்று சற்று தலை சாய்க்கலாம் என்றால் பக்கத்து வீட்டு பசங்கள் வைக்கும் பட்டாசும், பல-பலகாரங்கள் உட்கொண்ட நமது வயிறும் பாடாய் படுத்தும்.
பக்கத்து வீட்டுப் பையனை திட்டமுடியாது (நம்து வாண்டுகளும் சேர்ந்து அல்லவா கொட்டம் அடிக்கிரார்கள்).ஆனால் எல்லா பலகாரங்களையும் ருசி பார்த்த நாவிற்க்கும் வயிற்றுக்கும் மிக முக்கியமான ஒன்றை கொடுக்க மறந்து விடுகிரோம் – ” தீபாவளி மருந்து “.

ஆஹா இது சாப்பிட்ட பிறகு நமது வயிறு நம்மை வாழ்த்துவது நன்றே உணரலாம். ( பக்கத்தில் இருப்பவரை கேளுங்கள் – உங்கள் குறட்டை பட்டாசை விட பலமாக இருக்கும்).” தீபாவளி மருந்து ” ல் என்ன ச்வாரஸ்யம் என்றால் இது செய்வது சுலபம், பொதுவாக எல்லாருக்கும் பிடிக்கும். ஆனால் தீபாவளியின் போது மட்டுமே நினைவுக்கு வரும். வருஶத்துக்கு ஒரு தடவை தான் பண்ணுவோம்.

இதே போல் வருஶத்துக்கு ஒரு முறை மட்டுமே செய்யும் இன்னொரு சிற்றுண்டி – காரடயான் நோம்புக்கு (இதை சாவித்ரி நோம்பு என்றும் சொல்வார்கள்) கடவுளுக்கு படைக்கும் “நோம்பு-அடை”.இதை சாப்பிட்டவர்களை கேட்டால் தெரியும் அதன் சுவைய்யை நினைத்தாலே சப்புக்கொட்ட வைக்கும்.

யாரை குறை சொல்வது — செய்துதாருங்கள் என்று கேட்க மறந்து விடுவதையா ? … தினம்-தினம் இருக்கும் வேலை பளுவில் இதுவேற.. என்ற நினைப்பையா ? … நாமே சமயல்க்குறிப்பை வைத்து செய்து தான் பார்ப்போமே.. என்று நினைக்காத நம் சோம்பேரித்தனத்தையா ??? …

இதில் நீங்கள் என்த ரகம் ?. உங்கள் வீட்டில் “தீபாவளி மருந்து” & “நோம்பு-அடை” அடிக்கடி செய்வீர்களா ..செய்வார்களா..செய்யச்சொல்வீர்களா ? ? ?

எழுத்துப்பிழைய்யை மன்னித்து கருத்தில் பிழை இருந்தால் சங்கோசப்படாம சொல்லுங்க,
எதுவானாலும் பேசி தீத்துக்குவோம்.

Retaining "classic template look" in beta

Many of fellow bloggers out there are rather very much skeptic to migrate to beta.. because .. unlike me thay would not want to trade their template with those provided by beta. I totally agree.. for i have also travelled on the same route once.

Now, my beta template looks exactly like my classic template blogMy original 3 colum classic template is from here.I modified it so as to my liking. I can assure you that its indeed painstaking.. but not impossible


So dear fellow bloggers.. i shall be only willing to help you though a walk-though procedure regarding the tempate (look & feel) that you would like to achive in beta.Do drop in your willingness at the comments page.Peace assured.. you shall be doing all the editing.. so that by the time you are finished.. you will be capable enough to help someone

Finally you have gained some grip over typing in tamil using english alphabets.
All that remains is to post your Tamil-notes in the bolg.
Open the respective tamil -baraha document.
Edit–Select All
In the window where the characters appear as you type—Right clik
Copy special–Text UNICODE
Paste — in your Post page
Voila

Now you can see the Tamil charcters pasted on to the post window
Go ahead..Publish your first tamil post
Finally.. dont forget to include a link to this place in your blog.
It will make me little more happy when some one acknowledges my effort

Writing in Tamil

So now you can read the posts in Tamil…congrats….
Next you might wish to post your comments also in Tammil.. or you might even like to have a post in your personal blog in Tamil.Since you have already installed the required fonts, this should not be difficult.

When we think of typing in a language other than englsih..we think of translating our thoughts.So naturally you might have googled for some software.. that allows you to type in tamil and also provides an onscreen keyboard to help you with the characters. One such software is Kamban
But what we need is a Transiltator…ie transliteration based application which converts ‘Regional language text written in English’ to their own respective scripts.

when I write (in english)
vaNakkam :- வணக்கம்
nalamaa..tamizhil taTTachchu seyyalaam :-நலமா..தமிழில் தட்டச்சு செய்யலாம்
In order to acomplish this..

Download and install Baraha7 here
Open Baraha
Edit–Default Settings
Select TAMIL from the language drop down list
Clik ok

Now start typing in englsih.. you will see the tamil characters takking shape

Date header for multiple posts

Now i can dispaly my posts irrespective of wheter i have posted them on the same day or not.Normally, if you are performing multitple posts on the same day , then the date header will appear only once.I made a slight modification and VOILA,, even multiple posts show individual headers.

  1. Take a back up of your template before even you attempt

  2. Locate the following lines of code

Reading Tamil fonts

Many of you might have wondered why certain regional language sites appear as junk in your web-browser.It does not take a detective to decipher that the requisite fonts are not installed.I am not sure about other languages, but i can help you to set up fonts that will permit you to read Tamil blogs.

  1. CLICK HERE to Download an install Tamil fonts.
  2. Select a location
  3. Go ahead..Download and install

Now you should be able to view the Tamil characters.
However.. if you wish to reply back in tamil.. you need to do few more things.
